So as you all know (hopefully, unless you live under a rock...) Today was the game of all games. Canada vs. USA for the gold medal in hockey! Now like a true spirited Canadian I planted myself down on the couch and watched intensely from the beginning, unfortunately I had to be rudely interrupted because we had to go to a dinner. The opening of the Chinese New Year dinner to be exact... I KNOW!!! OF ALL THE NIGHTS TO PICK! My grandmother chose the day of the big game!! It was around 5 mins till the end of the 3rd and we had to get up and drive over to the restaurant. While driving we listened to the Fan 590 though and we heard... (yes all of you know who watched) that we let in a goal with just 24 seconds left! Putting us into overtime! By the time that the overtime period begun we were sitting in the Chinese restaurant all a bit peeved that we had no means to see what was happening. For some reason we couldn't navigate to a web page via blackberry that showed current scores for the game. So after what seemed like forever with fiddling with that I resorted to massive text messaging all my friends. Which it unfortunately turns out my statement in my previous entry held true... they weren't watching the game!!! :O
Thankfully my cousin texted me a couple minutes after saying the 2 golden words:
"WE WON!"
Winning goal from Sidney Crosby #87!
And just because Luongo is awesome I must post up a picture of some of the action he was in
"LUOOOO!!!" *waves giant cardboard cutout head of Luongo*
"LUOOOO!!!" *waves giant cardboard cutout head of Luongo*
(*Background story: Russia vs. Canada game on tv when they were showing the commentators on camera you have random people waving to the camera from the sides.. Suddenly, not one but two! GIANT cardboard cut outs of Luongo's head are being waved! made my day, now when ever I cheer for him I remember the cutouts =] )
A big sign of relief came over me. It was such a weird feeling sitting there and waiting to hear any signs of how the game went, it felt like we were isolated from civilization or something (like living under a rock =P) So with the news I excitedly told the rest of my family and immediately the mood of the table went from gloom to joy! =D Which we then carried on our way with our strange dinner.
My grandparents decided to mix it up a bit by ordering food we normally don't have, a lot of the dishes were questionable :l And I noticed that the fortune writing people are trying to be "funny" or something because there were some really random ones like:
"The way to view a small sky is from the bottom of a well"
"You will read this and say Geez, I could have come up with a better fortune than this"
"About time I got out of that cookie"
umm FYI, these aren't fortunes... unless you are telling me that I will fall down a well, one day in the future write fortunes, and get trapped inside a cookie than okay these things are dead on!
Anyways after dinner I went home to see the closing ceremony! =D Which was definitely better than the opening -.- I did enjoy (and was surprised) that they got William Shatner and Michael J Fox! to do some comedic things =] Even though Mike did disown Canada for a bit.. But he's proud to be Canadian again so we forgive him (Canadian's are also very forgiving =P) And the guy who I was hoping would perform MICHAEL BUBLE! came on right after! That was the highlight (at least for me) of the entire closing ceremony =]
William Shatner and Michael J Fox (Just had to put up of him in one of my all time favourite movies! Back to the Future!)
And of course.... Michael Buble!
